With a scorpion in a terrarium
Breeding scorpions in a terrarium can be a fascinating experience for animal enthusiasts and terrarium enthusiasts. However, breeding scorpions requires special attention and appropriate living conditions.

1. Selecting a Scorpion Species:
The first step is to choose a species of scorpion that is suitable for keeping in a terrarium. Popular species for breeding include the emperor scorpion (Pandinus imperator) and Emmerson's scorpion (Pandinus cavimanus). Make sure the species you choose is easy to grow and suitable for beginners.
2. Terrarium:
Choose a terrarium large enough to provide the scorpions with adequate space to move around. Scorpions are not very active, but they still need a place to roam.
The terrarium should be well ventilated, but at the same time protected against scorpion escape.
3. Substrate:
Use a substrate that retains moisture but also drains well.
A popular choice is a mixture of peat, sand and vermiculite.
4. Temperature and Humidity:
Scorpions need a warm and moist environment. The temperature should be maintained in the range of 25-30°C during the day, and may be slightly lower at night.
Humidity should be kept at around 70-80%. This can be achieved by regularly spraying water into the terrarium.
5. Lighting:
Scorpions are nocturnal, so they do not need special UVB lighting. All you need is a soft blue or red night light.
6. Hiding places:
Hiding places are very important for scorpions. Place appropriate places in the terrarium where scorpions can hide and rest during the day.
7. Feeding:
Scorpions are predators and usually feed on insects. Suitable examples include crickets, mealy insects and cockroaches. Make sure to offer scorpions a variety of food.
8. Observation and Mindfulness:
Be careful when handling scorpions. Although many farmed species are relatively gentle, they may use their venom if they feel threatened.
9. Regular Care:
Regularly remove food waste and monitor the condition of the terrarium to ensure a clean and healthy environment for the scorpions.
Always remember that breeding scorpions requires appropriate knowledge and commitment. Research the species you want to breed before you decide to buy it, and make sure you are willing to provide it with the right living conditions throughout its life.
